Summer School on Tolerance Management - Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg

General Information

The Institute of Engineering Design (KTmfk) of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg organizes the biennial Summer School Tolerance Management. The focus of the event lies on the knowledge and experience exchange between industry, research, and young talents in tolerancing. The participants get to know methods and tools in the field of virtual tolerance management as well as their application. This is supported by numerous guest lectures from industry and research.

Topics

The increasing demands on the quality of technical products require increasingly complex methods and tools in order to predict the influence of inevitable geometric variations caused by manufacturing, assembly and operation. Their application facilitates a suitable tolerance allocation while taking functional and aesthetic quality requirements into account. In addition to standard-compliant tolerancing, the aspects of robust design, tolerance simulation and process-oriented tolerance management become more and more important in research and industry.

The diverse aspects underline the interdisciplinary character of tolerance management. Along with the manifold causes of geometric deviations, this results in a wide range of tolerance management activities, of which the following are particularly the focus of the Summer School Tolerance Management:

  • Activities of tolerancing within the product development process
  • Methods and tools of the virtual tolerance management
  • Current trends and developments in research and industrial practice in tolerance management

We look forward to exciting discussions on these and other topics!
